When creating vector illustrations in CorelDRAW, for example portraits, you can utilize the Blend Tool to create 'steps' of color that simulates a complex gradient or blend of color.

  1. First create a shape, for example a part of a human cheek.  You could make that shape a flesh-tone color.
  2. Then duplicate that shape (Ctrl+D), and scale it down inside of the first shape. You could then make that newer shape a lighter flesh-tone.
  3. Next you would use the Blend Tool (Toolbox > Drop-shadow fly-out menu > Blend tool), to connect both shapes, and what you end up with is the first shape and color ‘morphing’ into the second shape and color.
  4. With the Shape Tool you could then manipulate either the front or the back shape, and the blend effect will compensate for those changes.
