As announced a couple of weeks back, we are really excited about the availability of CorelCAD for Mac OS X (10.6.6 or higher) users through the built-in Mac App Store. We hope you enjoy the experience, directly downloading and licensing the product to your Mac!

We released CorelCAD 1.0.1 earlier this week as a 1st update to the Mac App Store release. The update addresses problems that had been experienced with the initial version related to print style creation.
If you got the initial version, make sure to check for updates within the Mac App Store!

Whatever site or reseller you choose for purchasing CorelCAD licenses, you will receive the latest version of the product, which currently is the "May 2012 update" - release 12.4.x (Version 1.0.1 on the Mac App Store is the same product).

When selecting your source to buy a CorelCAD license for your Mac, here are a few points you should consider:

  1. CorelCAD is offered as a hybrid application for both Windows and Mac OS X platforms when purchasing from corel.com or from a Corel Authorized partner. On Apple Mac App Store you will only get a license for the Mac version of the product. Installing and using CorelCAD on a secondary Windows PC is therefore not available if you purchased from the Mac App Store.
  2. Applications offered in the Apple Mac App Store must support "Sandboxing" since June 1, 2012. While this is meant as a security enhancement for your Mac, it also results in some restrictions for the workflow. You will mainly notice this with referenced elements in a drawing file. For CorelCAD running in a sandbox, this means a few changes for you compared to using a "regular" application installation that is not running in a sandbox:
    • Externally referenced .DWG files (XRefs) must be loaded one by one. The application is not allowed to automatically load these references automatically when opening a .DWG file for editing.
    • The same applies to images that are inserted into CAD drawings as external files.
    • PDF Underlay is not supported in CorelCAD as delivered on the Mac App Store at this stage.
    • All settings, templates and other programmatically accessed files must be stored within the application sandbox. In some cases (i.e. in the Options dialog) this means you cannot specify a custom location for supporting files that the application needs to access.

If you are relying on PDF Underlay or working with XRefs in your CAD models frequently you may want to buy CorelCAD at the regular price as it's available from Corel directly or through a Corel Authorized reseller.
